First free Xbox Live Gold game is Defense Grid: The Awakening
Games With Gold program kicks off
First announced at E3 last month, the Xbox Live Games With Gold program kicks off today with a free copy of Defense Grid: The Awakening.
Normally 800 Microsoft Points, the game will be free for Xbox LIVE Gold members July 1st through July 15th. A new game will become available on July 16th.
Defense Grid: The Awakening is the a tower defense strategy game. Strategically place your towers on the map to prevent alien enemies from stealing your power cores.
Microsoft says titles such as Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2 are also on the way to the offering. Games With Gold is only currently set to run until December 31st, and the company will then decide on whether or not to continue. The program is an attempt to counter Sony's PlayStation Plus service that has been giving out free games monthly since last year's E3.
