360 Rumours: Blu-ray and $100 Live?
Some rumors are surrounding the 360 this week, is a Blu-ray drive coming as an accessory and will there be an increase on the price of Xbox Live to $100.
Are Blu-ray drives coming to the 360? According to Steve Balmer the answer is yes. Steve Balmer spoke in an interview and mentioned
"Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories."
A mistake perhaps, or is this clear indication of Microsoft finally deciding to cut their losses and eliminate the big bonus the Sony PS3 has over the 360? A blu-ray add on drive similar to the HD DVD drive they already released for the console would help make the console a premier home entertainment system.
Apparently Michael Pachter believes the Xbox Lie serice price will also increase to $100 a year. Microsoft responded directly
"I don't foresee a scenario where we're going to double the price of LIVE anytime in the next couple months."
Sounds like maybe after those couple of months are up, it's time for a price increase. We will see early 2010 whether or not Microsoft are keen to get some more money from gamers. The PS3 online component is still free.
