Xbox Live Arcade records profitable first half of 2011
Revenue Generation led by the likes of Torchlight
As per the Research & Analysis division of analyst firm Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment(FADE), Microsoft has set a new record in the 1st half of 2011, as Xbox Live Arcade grew to an estimated $66.2 million USD in revenues.
Poker title 'Full House Poker' from Microsoft led the charts when ordered by units sold with an estimated 268,000 units sold for $2.7 million USD in revenues.
Many other Xbox Live Arcade-exclusive titles made the top ten including 'Torchlight' (239,000 units/$3.6 Million USD) 'Trials HD' (216,000 units/$2.9 Million USD), 'LIMBO' (139,000 units/$1.8 Million USD), and 'Trenched' (122,000 units/$1.8 Million USD). In total, 18 games saw revenue estimates over $1 million USD, a record for the service.
"Despite being six years into the Xbox 360's lifespan, Xbox Live Arcade is still exhibiting incredible growth, showcasing the importance of Microsoft's digital strategy" said Benjamin Schlichter, Director of Research and Analysis at FADE. "As per our June report, seven titles have debuted with over $1 million USD in revenue during the year, up from just two during the first half of 2010."
Likely due to significant increases in hardware and top titles released, the market was up 41% from last year during the same time period, with 4 consecutive months of revenues above $10 million USD.
