Capcom reports Q3 FY2012 financials
Resident Evil 6 and DmC sell below expectations, but publisher still makes a profit
Capcom has announced its financial results in the first 9 months of fiscal year 2012 ending March 31, 2013.
Net sales increased to 72,699 million yen (up 44.6% from the same term last year). Operating income increased to 9,838 million yen (up 45.9 %), and ordinary income increased to 10,054 million yen (up 72.6 %). Net income for the current period increased to 6,645 million yen (up 104.9 %).
During the 9 months, the flagship title Resident Evil 6 surpassed 4.8 million units sold; Dragon's Dogma saw 1.2 million units sold; and finally RE: Operation Raccoon City sold 0.6 million units. The sales figures only account for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.
The company commented: "Resident Evil 6, despite recording brisk sales when it debuted, subsequently lost its momentum, resulting in the failure to achieve planned sales and fulfill its role as a driver of sales expansion. On the other hand, Dragon's Dogma enjoyed popularity exceeding expectations in the more profitable domestic market, becoming a million-seller."
Additionally, the sales of brand new release DmC Devil May Cry have already reached 1 million units in January, but the company has adjusted its outlook for the game to only sell another 200k copies in the coming months.
PC version of DmC was released in late January; while Resident Evil 6 port is coming in a few months. Dragon's Dogma did not get a PC release.
