Xbox Live and PSN down over Christmas
An ongoing outage is potentially due to a DDoS attack
Both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network are down over Christmas Day 2014, with the outage blamed on a DDoS attack.
Anyone who unwrapped new consoles and games yesterday was likely faced with an inability to login to either publisher's network. Users have been unable to connect to any online services to play games or even browse the e-store.
As of mid-day on December 26, Microsoft now claims that Xbox Live Core Services are up and running, while PlayStation Twitter account says they are still working on restoring services.
A group called Lizard Squad on Twitter is taking responsibility for the attacks, which likely result from inundating and overloading the networks with traffic.
While it's very inconvenient and not a great way to start using your shiny new console or game, neither company says that any user data was compromised during this outage. Patience is a virtue, especially during the Holidays!
