Battlefield 3 servers suffering from DDoS attack
Developers say they are working to protect the multiplayer infrastructure
Dice, developers of Battlefield 3 for Electronic Arts, have come forward to address the connectivity issues for multiplayer servers over the past week.
According to the statement, the problems stem from an ongoing denial of service attack against the game's servers.
"The current Battlefield 3 outages are a result of activity that appears to be aimed at overwhelming our back-end infrastructure," reads the statement. "Despite our security measures, we have been working around the clock to mitigate the impact of an ongoing denial-of-service attack on our Battlefield 3 game infrastructure over the last several days. While the motives are unclear, the focus of the attack has been interference with network communications preventing access to multiplayer gameplay. At this point, no user data is involved."
The developers say they are doing everything possible to resolve the situation, while users have been reporting connectivity issues over the past week and a half. The attacks are affecting multiplayer across all platforms - PC, Xbox Live, and PSN.
As a part of the efforts to resolve these issues, DICE have conducted rolling restarts of Battlefield infrastructure servers to apply some updates, causing further connection troubles.
