New smaller and lighter PlayStation 3 announced
New model of the console arriving worldwide this year
Sony Computer Entertainment today announced a new PlayStation 3(PS3) computer entertainment system, featuring a new design and a downsized form factor, will become available worldwide this holiday season.
The new PS3 will be available in two different models, with 250GB and 500GB HDDs. It also features a smaller, streamlined design as the new model is approximately 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3.

In addition, a new PS3 with 12GB flash memory offers opportunities to experience the world of PlayStation at an affordable price point. This model is only for Europe/ PAL territories and will reatil there for €229.
In North America, the new 250GB PS3 will be available on September 25th for $269.99 as part of a limited edition bundle featuring Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Game of the Year Edition. The new 500GB model will retail for US$299 starting October 30th, in a limited edition bundle in conjunction with the release of Assassin’s Creed III.
SCE promises more plans to continue the expansion of the PS3 platform, which is in the 7th year of its lifecycle having launched in November 2006.
