Dear Esther hits 250k sales milestone
Indie title finds more commercial success following Steam sale
Developers Thechineseroom have announced that their indie title Dear Esther has reached 250,000 copies sold milestone following a big discount during Steam's Summer Sales event.
After being put up in a 75%-off Flash Sale, a big 118k copies were sold in 48 hours, according to the devs. This took the title's total to over 250,000 copies shifted since launch, said Dan Pinchbeck on Twitter.
Dear Esther is a ghost story, told using first-person gaming technologies. Rather than traditional game-play the focus here is on exploration, uncovering the mystery of the island, of who you are and why you are here. Fragments of story are randomly uncovered when exploring the various locations of the island, making every each journey a unique experience.
