PlayStation brand retail sales surpass 6.5 million units over the holidays
PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3 retail sales jump worldwide during the holiday break
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that holiday season retail sales of the PlayStation Vita, the PlayStation 3, the PSP, and the PlayStation 2 exceeded 6.5 million units worldwide.
PS Vita sold half million units to consumers since its launch on December 17, 2011 in Japan and December 23, 2011 in Asia. The system launched concurrently with 24 software titles from both 3rd party developers and publishers and SCE Worldwide Studios.
Meanwhile, the PS3 system exceeded 3.9 million units worldwide during the holiday sales season, with Sony planning to reach an annual sales target of 15.0 million hardware units worldwide in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012. The PS Move motion controller exceeded 1.7 million units during the holiday sales season.
Worldwide PSP and PS2 sales exceeded 1.6 million units and 0.5 million units during the holiday season, respectively.
