Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to include cross platform play
PS3 version to support Steamworks, cross-platform play with PC
Valve has announced that the PS3 edition of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will feature support for keyboard and mouse controls, as well as the Move motion controller on PlayStation 3. Cross-platform play and Steamworks support will also be included, reports Gamasutra.
The extra control options should help level the playing field for planned cross-platform play between the PS3 and PC/Mac versions of the title. Though the PS3 supports most standard USB and bluetooth keyboards and mice, Unreal Tournament 3 is one of the only PS3 shooters to include support for the controls.
Valve is also planning to include a new "Casual mode" that allows for unlimited weapon purchases, open voice chat between teams and the option to spectate a member of the opposing team after death. This seems to be similar to the standard "pub" configuration of many existing CS: Source servers on PC.
The company will allow players to host their own servers for Counter-Strike: GO, but Valve's own servers will be the only ones that allow for matchmaking based on skill level. A PC-only beta test for the game is planned for October.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is planned for release in 2012 on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
