Sony PlayStation PSN Network is back online
Sony announces that restoration process has begun
Sony PlayStation has announced, via PS Blog, that PSN Restoration has begun.
Following weeks of downtime, some of the PlayStation Network services have began working again. This includes friends lists, trophies, online play, and chat. A new version of Firmware has also been released, which adds security to the system.
All users will also be required to change their password, and as added security, passwords will then only be able to get changed with email verification or on the same PS3 system.
Functionality of the PSN Store and other purchasing options will remain down for now. The systems are now returning across the globe, in an ongoing process that could take a day or two.
This marks the end of what is likely the most significant outage of an online service in the video gaming history. See below the personal announcement from Kazuo Hirai:
