Free to play Command & Conquer cancelled
Developers Victory Games is shut down as project ends following alpha
EA has confirmed that developer Victory Games has been shut down and their first project, a free to play Command & Conquer MMORTS, has been cancelled.
In a blog post, Victory staff say that "[...] feedback from the alpha trial is clear: We are not making the game you want to play. That is why, after much difficult deliberation, we have decided to cease production of this version of the game."
The publisher will be refunding any and all money spent in the alpha over the next 10 days.
Victory Games was founded in 2010. Between December 2011 and November 2012 Victory Games was part of the BioWare label as BioWare Victory. This was the company's first project. EA stated that "This does mean that the Victory Games team will be disbanded. Wherever possible, we are working to help these talented people find other opportunities with EA."
It is reported that EA have already begun looking at a number of alternatives to get the franchise back on track. What that means is unclear.
Originally announced as Command & Conquer: Generals 2, the title was later revealed to be an always-online, free to play RTS running on DICE's Frostbite engine.
