STALKER 2 officially cancelled
Developers say the game is no more, a new studio is formed to create a spiritual followup
Following the potential closure of developers GSC late last year, news is breaking today that the STALKER 2 project is officially cancelled.
First noted by RPS, the Twitter account of the developers has announced that a new studio Vostock Games was formed and a game called Survarium will be created. Survarium is said to be a spiritual successor to the STALKER series, an MMO FPS.
A couple of Tweets confirm the news. "All those asking about funding etc. That is not the issue. We were unable to secure the IP rights to continue with the Stalker franchise," said the devs. "We cannot [continue to develop STALKER 2 under a new name]. It is not just the name. All the game content, story etc are all part of the IP rights."
A Q&A is set for tomorrow @ 18:00 GMT+2 on the Survarium facebook & twitter pages for those looking for more details.
