Let’s look back at how our predictions turned out in 2022 on the next page…

On this final page, we like to look back at how well our hopes played out over the last year. Let’s take a look at our most anticipated games for 2022 and how things worked out. Hint – there were a lot of delays!

A Plague Tale: Requiem
78/100: “A Plague Tale: Requiem is a vastly expanded sequel, for better and for worse. Returning fans might feel that everything here is quite familiar, if only bigger and more beautiful. If the improvements to combat and the uneven story aren’t enough to entice you, the relationship playing out between our two central heroes is worth another trek through rat infested France.”

Gran Turismo 7
78/100: “Gran Turismo 7 continues to go about its brand of racing simulation in a uniquely eccentric and elegant way. It looks and handles as great as ever, though there is not much novelty here to get excited about, and the always-online requirement remains unwarranted.”

Horizon Forbidden West
80/100: “Horizon Forbidden West is a sequel that mostly relies on its great roots to hold itself up. It’s bigger, has an enjoyable main story and thrilling combat, and adds a few new branches – brittle as they may be. It looks and sounds great, and some minor technical issues aside, is an adventure that’s worth experiencing.”

Marvel’s Midnight Suns
76/100: “Marvel’s Midnight Suns might not deliver on everything it’s setting out to do, but is still an excellent fusion of hardcore strategy and super hero action. It’s engaging to take down enemies with your superpowered pals, and then getting to unwind with them afterwards.”

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals
The game didn’t make it to a 2022 launch window.

Slime Rancher 2
The game didn’t make it to a 2022 launch window – and is once again on our most anticipated list!

Sniper Elite 5
75/100: “Thanks to the foundation built by its predecessor, Sniper Elite 5 is a good entry in the franchise, with large open levels and capable stealth mechanics. While it has several decent multiplayer options, better execution was needed to really hit all targets.”

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
The game didn’t make it to a 2022 launch window – and is once again on our most anticipated list!

Starfield
The game didn’t make it to a 2022 launch window – and is once again on our most anticipated list!

Stray
72/100: “Stray is a solid enough adventure game with archetypal mechanics and level design, elevated by its nice atmosphere and a unique perspective on the world.”

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
70/100: “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a full-priced offering that seems like it would have been better suited as DLC, like its predecessor. It’s still a solid shooter with some whacky characters and a fun story, but it doesn’t take any risks or innovate on the established formula, and the multiplayer issues are an annoyance.”

Thanks for reading, and we look forward to another exciting year in 2023, with many new games that are not even announced yet!
