Hideo Kojima may be leaving Konami
The Phantom Pain is unaffected, but the next game in the franchise won't involve Kojima
It appears that Konami and Hideo Kojima have failed to come to an agreement with the regards to the future cooperation between the two.
Following reports yesterday that Konami has began removing Kojima's name and logo from all promotional material relating to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the two industry giants have now issued a joint statement to address the situation.
The statement says that "MGS5: The Phantom Pain is still scheduled for release in September... and Hideo Kojima will remain involved throughout."
Hideo Kojima himself added, "I want to reassure fans that I am 100% involved and will continue working on The Phantom Pain; I’m determined to make it the greatest game I’ve directed to date. Don’t miss it!"
The future, however, seems bleak. The statement goes on to say that a new Metal Gear game is already planned for development, and Konami will be "conducting interviews for main staff to lead the development," thus strongly suggesting that Kojima and his studio Kojima Productions will no longer be involved.
Hideo Kojima is the original creator and a director for all of the games in the Metal Gear franchise (sans Revengeance).
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will release this September on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, and PC.
