Microsoft closing PC Marketplace
PC-only users should clean out their accounts by next week
Microsoft has announced that as part of the recent Xbox 360 system update, Microsoft Points will be retired and the Xbox.com PC Marketplace will be closed as of August 22, 2013.
The publisher recommends all users who do not have an Xbox 360 to spend their account cash should clear it out before the date - as there will be nothing for your to purchase afterwards. If you do have an Xbox 360, your points will remain on your account as per usual and be converted to local currency.
PC users will not be able to purchase new games, but can continue to use previously purchased content by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client software as usual. Although the purchase functionality will be discontinued, the Games for Windows Live service will continue to operate.
In-game purchases and other downloadable content purchase availability will vary based on the particular game.
