Xbox One will allow self publishing
Microsoft looks to change policies and allow more dev flexibility
Microsoft has announced it has plans to allow for self publishing on the Xbox One.
The company has been under some pressure from indie developers to allow more freedom when it comes to publishing titles on Xbox Live. Currently, there are strict rules in place that prevent many from entering the market, including not having an established publisher to back the release. Sony's PlayStation 4 has been noted for its indie push and allowing self-publishing on PSN.
Now, it appears, the change is coming. Major Nelson made the announcement on his blog, getting a quote from Marc Whitten on the matter.
"Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox LIVE. This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox LIVE."
More info is promised at GamesCom, the annual show taking place in Cologne, August 21st to 25th.
