Huge intel drop for Black Ops 6 via Call of Duty: NEXT
Details on maps, gunsmith, movement, and more
Activision has released a heap of information about the upcoming Black Ops 6 via their NEXT event, now accessible on the official site through a number of lengthy blog posts. The blogs detail a range of multiplayer features and also what can be expected from the beta, launching tomorrow for those with early access.
Black Ops 6 will launch with 12 standard 6v6 core maps, and another 4 strike maps, that can be played in either 2v2 (gunfight) or 6v6. The strike maps are small (think Nuketown meets Shipment) so will offer chaos when played with the most players. All of the launch maps are new to the series, and they adhere to the traditional three-lane structure.
Movement is also being changed, with a new "Omnimovement" system. Players can now go into a "supine prone” position and look in a full 360 degree field around them while stationary on the ground. Diving, mantling, and sliding are also getting tweaked, allowing for more freedom when moving through levels. You will also now be able to grab enemy soldiers and use them as a body shield for a few seconds, if you are behind them and in melee range.
Gunsmith is being reworked, inspired by the second game in the sub-franchise with more streamlined options. Attachments this time will come with pros and not cons, so they only improve weapons. Optics can be used on practically all weapons. And specific enhancements (e.g. aim-down sight speed) are tied to a single attachment type rather than multiple.
In addition to these changes, there is a much greater focus on player customisation. Various weapon reticles can be unlocked and equipped. Player emotes return, to deploy for maximum insult during a match. Even sprays are back, allowing players to paint the world with emblems. There is also a lot of setting customization too, with different HUD types and options to dictate how sprinting works.
Head over to the first blog post to read more about what is coming in Black Ops 6, including details on Zombies. The beta starts August 30th for early access (preorders) and is open to all on September the 6th. Black Ops 6 launches on PC, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 25th, 2024.
