Supreme Commander 2 requires Steam, no custom maps
Supreme Commander 2 is going to require Steam and will not allow support for custom maps. But it's not all bad news the system requirements are lower.
Speaking to IGN.UK Chris Taylor has revealed some startling information about the sequel to the widely approved Real-Time Strategy game - Supreme Commander 2.
Custom Maps are out
Yes that's right, apparently we don't need custom maps anymore for Supreme Commander. The original recieved a map editor about 4 months after release back in 2007. But this time things are far too complicated. Mods are possible though.
Requires Steam
Good stuff here, eliminates zero day piracy and Steam is now widely accepted among the user community. Won't be using GPG.NET and instead use the Steam server browser system, this may even include Steam achievements.
Lower system requirements
The minimum system requirements for Supreme Commander 2 will be lower than the original game released back in February 2007. The original required a very beefy machine with a fast CPU in order to get frames especially when the unit counts rose to high levels. Supreme Commander 2 won't require a quad core cpu.
Streamlined
Basically the dual reasource system of the first game (mass and energy) is going by the way side. Instead you'll have typical resource gathering which adds funds to your account which you later spend on units and buildings.
"Taylor was adamant that this change was implemented to ease players into the fold, admitting that SupCom 1 really was just too complicated for many players out there to even bother learning the mechanics. Streamlined economy equals an easier learning curve and, he hopes, more fans"
Supreme Commander 2 arrives on PC and Xbox 360 March 2010
