Tom Hardy to star as Sam Fisher in film adaptation of the game
Ubisoft has announced that Tom Hardy is attached to star as Sam Fisher in its forthcoming movie based on the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell video game universe, with Eric Singer attached to write the screenplay.
Hardy's recent work includes the roles of iconic villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and con man Eames in Inception. He recently starred in Lawless, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and the boxing drama Warrior. He will next be seen in the lead role of Mad Max: Fury Road.
Meanwhile, Eric Singer wrote the Black List script American Bullsh*t, which David O. Russell will direct with Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner set to star. Singer’s previous credits include the thriller The International.
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is a stealth action video game series that has sold more than 23 million copies since its debut in 2002. Splinter Cell follows protagonist Sam Fisher, a highly-trained special operative in a fictional black-ops sub-division, Echelon.
Development for the next installment, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, is being led by the Ubisoft Toronto studio, and the game is set for release in Spring 2013.
