Pure Pwnage movie crowd funded in less than 24 hours
Hit internet web show to return as a film
The crew behind Internet and TV show Pure Pwnage have funded themselves to make a film, in less than 24 hours.
Using IndieGoGo, a site similar to Kickstarter, the creators behind the video game themed series reached their goal of $75k in less than 24 hours, showing that the fan following is still strong for a brand that's been off the air for a few years now.
"We want to make THE gamer movie, the one that finally does justice to online gaming and Internet culture on the big screen. We feel that Hollywood has continually (and often epically) failed to deliver on this front. So we want to pwn Hollywood like somebody's mom playing Call of Duty and we need your help to do it," proclaims the project page.
The project still has 58 days to go, with more donations continuing to pour in. There is no word yet on where the extra money will go, but likely it's to increase production values.
The web series ran from 2004-2008, prior to being picked up for broadcast on Canadian television. In 2010 its network home underwent a re-branding and despite the show's critical acclaim (nominated for Best Comedy Series, Best Writing in a Comedy Series and Best Directing in a Comedy Series) and healthy viewership, it was not renewed.
