QuakeCon 2012 begins today
Annual festival returns for four days to Dallas
QuakeCon 2012, a four-day celebration of games and the people who play them, begins today and will run through Sunday, August 5 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, TX.
QuakeCon 2012 kicks off with an address by id Software’s Todd Hollenshead and Bethesda Softworks’ Pete Hines followed by a keynote address given by John Carmack, co-founder and technical director of id Software. In addition to the keynote, this year’s QuakeCon will host a number of panels featuring prominent members of the interactive entertainment industry.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to play Dishonored, the supernatural assassin action game under development by Arkane Studios, and id Software’s DOOM 3 BFG Edition, in Bethesda’s booth in the Exhibit Hall.
More than 8,500 attendees are expected to attend this year’s QuakeCon, with more than half that number coming from out of state and around the world. In order to ensure an event of this size runs smoothly, more than 235 volunteers will spend approximately 4,800 man hours setting up over 7.2 miles of cables, 1,300 tables and 2,650 chairs.
The free event is open to general admission thanks to the support of id and Bethesda Softworks, as well as the QuakeCon volunteer staff and the 2012 event sponsors and exhibitors.
