NCsoft sign the largest Unreal Engine 3 deal in Asia

Epic Games confirms the largest licensing deal in the region to date

Posted on
Epic Games and NCsoft have announced a major, long-term licensing agreement to bring the Unreal Engine 3 to NCsoft’s future titles. Orchestrated by Epic Games Korea, this engine licensing deal is the largest that Epic has ever signed in Asia.

Through this new partnership, NCsoft will use the latest Unreal Engine 3 technology to develop its upcoming games, including “Blade & Soul”. NCsoft previously licensed Unreal Engine 2 in 2001 for the prominent MMORPG “Lineage II.”

It has been possible for us to harness all our energy and put it toward the creativity of the games themselves by developing ‘Lineage II’ and ‘Blade and Soul’ with Unreal Engine,” said Hyungjun Kim, vice president of NCsoft. “I believe we can pull the most out of the engine through the know-how that has accumulated through our experience with this superior game engine.”

Established in 2009, Epic Games Korea is a wholly owned and operated business unit based in Seoul. The subsidiary drives Unreal Engine licensing, creates technology and provides support to development teams using the Unreal Engine in the Korean marketplace.
