Ubisoft server changes could lock out some PC games
Some PC games will be unplayable while server moves are in progress due to DRM
Much has been said about Ubisoft's heavily criticized DRM system, which requires PC users to be connected to the Internet even when playing games offline. Now, comes a real test and example of why this DRM method is very inconvenient to the customers.
Starting February 7, Ubisoft will be transitioning the hosting of many of its online services from a third-party data center to a new facility. During the transition, some Ubisoft services and online games will not be available.
This means that if you wish to play HAWX 2, Might & Magic : Heroes VI, or The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom on PC - you're out of luck. A complete list of games also shows that most recent titles (Driver, Assassin's Creed) won't be affected by this transition. Uplay PC will also not be available during the transition.
There is no word on how long this transition will actually take, so users with affected games are stuck waiting for a potentially long time.
