OnLive Secures More Funding
Report says system is still on target for launch this winter
OnLive, a cloud-based gaming service unveiled earlier this year , has announced that it has secured an additional round of funding and that it is still on target for a winter launch. OnLive is currently going through beta tests and the company claims that, "interest from potential users has exceeded expectations," according to a report on IGN.
The report goes on to detail where the funding came from and some major players are involved. AT&T Media Holdings, Warner Bros, Autodesk, and others were involved in this most recent round of funding. Currently, OnLive is currently expanding its server centers and expects to have five operational hubs around the US on launch day.
OnLive uses a "cloud" of servers to do the processing for gaming, enabling players to stream graphically intensive videogames instantly and on demand without a powerful local computer. Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Take-Two are amongst the publishers committed to delivering games to the service.
