Grow a Garden Reaches 5 Million Players, Becomes Roblox's Most Popular Game

Explore how Grow a Garden became Roblox's most played game ever, with 5M concurrent users, 900K favorites, and 94% approval in record time.

In March 2025, a Roblox game called Grow a Garden was released by the developer The Garden Game. Just two months later, on May 17, the game made history by reaching 5 million concurrent players. It was the first Roblox title ever to reach even 3 million players at once, and the surge in traffic caused Roblox to experience technical issues, with some users reporting temporary platform crashes.

Before Grow a Garden, Roblox already had several popular games such as Brookhaven RP and Blox Fruits. Brookhaven RP is a life simulation game where users can buy houses, drive cars, and choose jobs. Blox Fruits is an RPG inspired by the anime One Piece, where players explore worlds and collect powers. These games built strong fan bases over the years, but Grow a Garden reached its record-breaking milestone in just weeks.

The game has now been visited over 1.5 billion times. It has over 900,000 user favorites and holds a 94% approval rating. It is featured in Roblox's top sections, including most popular, most profitable, and most played.

In Grow a Garden, players start with basic seeds and work to build their own garden. There is no age restriction, and the gameplay is simple. Players buy seeds such as carrots, strawberries, and mushrooms. They grow crops, sell them for in-game currency, and use the earnings to buy new seeds, pets with special effects, and gardening tools. Players can also share crops or trade them with others.

Each crop in the game has a specific price and rarity. For example, carrots cost only 10 Sheckles and are often used to complete daily quests like planting 100 seeds. Strawberries cost 50 Sheckles and can be harvested repeatedly. Blueberries, priced at 400 Sheckles, are uncommon but regrowable, making them useful early in the game.

Some crops are more expensive and rare. Daffodils cost 1,000 Sheckles and can be sold for 2,000. Apple trees are priced at 3,250 Sheckles and produce a large number of fruits, which increases the chance of mutations. Bamboo, which costs 4,000 Sheckles, is also functional — players can use it to climb trees. Coconut trees, costing 6,000 Sheckles, grow several fruits worth around 800 each. They also help complete weight-based quests. The most expensive crop is grapes. Grape seeds cost 850,000 Sheckles and are classified as "Divine." A regular grape sells for about 14,000 Sheckles, and larger ones can sell for up to 70,000.

While Grow a Garden leads the charts, other new Roblox games are also gaining attention. One example is Macbeth on Roblox, launched on May 7, 2025. Developed by the Singapore Repertory Theatre with support from the National Arts Council, the game brings Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth to life in an interactive format. Players experience the story from Macbeth’s perspective, make decisions, and explore scenes adapted into a sci-fi world. It aligns with Singapore’s Ministry of Education's Literature in English curriculum and serves as a learning tool for students.

In addition, Roblox has introduced other themed games, including a Hell’s Kitchen-inspired restaurant simulator and Dead Rails, a zombie adventure. The platform even hosted a promotional game where players could earn free burritos.

At the same time, Roblox is growing its advertising business. In 2025, at the IAB Playfronts conference, the company announced a new partnership with Google. This agreement will bring rewarded video ads to Roblox. These are short, full-screen ads that players can choose to watch in exchange for in-game rewards. Early results showed high engagement, with over 80% of users watching the ads to the end, and some games reporting over 90% completion rates.

The ads will be available for purchase through Google Ad Manager and AdMob, which allows Roblox to tap into Google's large network of advertisers. For developers, it means a new way to earn revenue from their games. For players, the rewards provide extra in-game benefits without spending Robux, which will likely retain users who don't normally make purchases.

However, Roblox must balance ad integration with user experience. Most of its players are young, so it needs to ensure the ads are safe, appropriate, and not disruptive. At the same time, advertisers will expect good returns. If the results are strong, the partnership could continue to grow and expand into more ad formats.
