Sony offers free games with Play At Home Initiative
Free games, and support for small developers announced
Jim Ryan, President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has announced the new Play At Home program today.
Play At Home has two components: first, providing free games to help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home; and secondly, establishing a fund to help smaller independent game studios who may be experiencing financial difficulties.
To support Play At Home, PlayStation will offer Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey for free for a limited time through digital downloads; from April 15 at 8pm PDT through May 5, 2020 at 8pm PDT.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is a three-game collection that includes Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception - all remastered for PS4. Similarly, Journey is an adventure game known for its minimalist approach and asynchronous multiplayer, also optimized for PS4.
Secondy, SIE has developed a fund to support small developers during this time. The company has earmarked $10 million to support their independent development partners. More information about the fund, including participation criteria, will be made available soon.
