The winners from first Canadian Video Game Awards
Assassin's Creed 2 nearly sweeps the show
The winners of the first ever Canadian Video Game Awards (CVAs) have been revealed tonight in a conference hosted by Victor Lucas and other major members of the Canadian Video Game industry. The show also benefited greatly from the performance of Video Games Live, which showed off various tunes from popular game titles.
The main focus was of course on the awards though, and Assassin's Creed 2 has won almost every category it was nominated for. Some real surpises still took place however, and overall it was a very fun and entertaining two hour event. Without much delay, here are the night's winners:
Best Audio: Dawn of War 2
Best Technology: Assassin's Creed 2 / Prototype (Tie)
Best Visual Arts: Assassin's Creed 2
Best Game Design: Assassin's Creed 2
Best Writing: Dragon Age Origins
Best Downloadable Game: Critter Crunch
Best Handheld Game: Might And Magic - Clash of Heroes
Most Promising Game: ModNation Racers
Best Cinematic: Ghostbusters
Best Console Game: Assassin's Creed 2
Game of the Year: Dragon Age Origins
While AC2 did very well, winning most of the awards it was nominated for, Dragon Age took the top honor, as voted by the fans via the official website, rather than being picked by a panel of judges (like the rest of the awards).
Everyone had a great time, and the show is already being scheduled for a return in 2011 as part of the Technology Week in the city.
