Call of Duty World League announced
Players will compete for over $3 million in prize money
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 releasing in just six weeks, Activision have announced the creation of the Call of Duty World League. The new league will be split into two divisions—The Pro Division and The Challenge Division—each will culminate into a grand final event at the Call of Duty Championships.
Professional teams in North America, Europe and Australia & New Zealand will compete to earn a ticket in the Call of Duty Championship. The Pro Division events begin in January 2016. The Challenge Division will provide more casual players the chance to earn a spot in the Call of Duty Championship by competing in a series of official LAN events.
“With Call of Duty: Black Ops III, we are introducing a series of new features, like Arena mode that not only accommodate that diversity of play styles, but also let players see how they stack up against one another.” said Mark Lamia from Treyarch.
The Call of Duty Championships will move to Autumn 2016, rather than Spring, to facilitate the new season structure. The total prize money will exceed $3 million between series payouts, LAN events and the Call of Duty Championship, making it the biggest prize pool in Call of Duty history.
Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is due for release on PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on November 6th 2015.
