GTA 5’s Lester Voice Actor Says GTA 6 Could Deserve $100 Price Tag
The ongoing conversation about the potential cost of Grand Theft Auto 6 has expanded, now including comments from Jay Klaitz, the actor who portrayed Lester Crest in Grand Theft Auto 5. In an interview with The Escapist, Klaitz responded to speculation that GTA 6 could be the first standard-edition video game priced at $100, saying “Yeah, dude” when asked if the price would be deserved, and adding that he believes it would be justified.
Neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two Interactive has confirmed pricing for GTA 6. However, industry analysts have suggested an increase beyond the current $70 standard for major titles. In March, Michael Pachter, Managing Director of Equity Research at Wedbush Securities, stated that GTA 6 could be priced at $100 or more, pointing to the size and scope of Rockstar’s work.
Klaitz explained his view by referencing the development of Grand Theft Auto 5, which was released in 2013 and relied heavily on motion capture. He said, “GTA V was so heavy on the mocap. I assume that GTA VI will be the same way.” He also described the timeline for the new game, stating, “They finished GTA V and then started on GTA VI more or less immediately thereafter,” and added, “This shit takes forever.” With GTA 6 scheduled for release in May 2026, the gap between main releases is roughly 13 years.
He also mentioned post-launch content, saying, “You’re almost buying multiple games when you buy the one,” referring to GTA 5’s additional versions, downloadable content, and online mode.
Klaitz said that affordability matters and that he understands the argument for making the game accessible to more players, but he concluded, “I share the sentiment that this game warrants that price tag.”
At this point, many observers consider it a fair bet that speculation about a $100 price will continue as the industry waits for official confirmation.
A recent survey suggested that Rockstar could lose revenue if the base version of GTA 6 launches above $70. While Take-Two has already said multiple editions will be available, no pricing has been announced. Multi-tier releases are common in the industry, but the price of the standard edition is still unknown.
