Sony to end support for PlayStation Home
The virtual 3D social gaming platform no longer a focus for the company
Sony has announced that it will end support for PlayStation Home this year.
"Due to a shifting landscape, PlayStation Home will cease publishing new content on November 12, 2014. Gamers in the U.S. and Canada will be able to download content until December 3, 2014. As a token of our tremendous gratitude to the community, we will also be releasing a series of free content prior to the platform's closure on March 31, 2015," said a PlayStation Network Senior Community Manager via the forums.
Originally launched in 2008, PlayStation Home is a virtual 3D social gaming platform developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's London Studio for the PlayStation 3 on the PlayStation Network. Home allows users to create a custom avatar, which can be groomed realistically. Each avatar is given a personal apartment that users can decorate with free, bought, or won items. Users can travel throughout the Home world, with Public spaces that are made for display, entertainment, advertising, and networking.
Back in 2009, Sony said that PS Home reached 10 million users.
