Activision ends sales of DLC for its music games
DLC for the Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Band Hero being taken offline
It has been announced that downloadable songs for the Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Band Hero games, and the Guitar Hero mobile game will no longer be available after March 31, 2014.
The news means players will no longer be able to purchase additional content after the end of the month. The Guitar Hero servers will stay online and any previously purchased downloadable content is unaffected by this change. The production of new DLC for the games ended in February 2011.
To celebrate the end of the music game era, selected songs and tracks will be available for as much as a 50% discount on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii from now until the end of the month.
The Guitar Hero series was huge during the 2000s, but steady sales decline and licenses running out caused the franchise to end with Warriors of Rock. DJ Hero saw two entries make it to stores.
