Definitive Edition of Tomb Raider not coming to PC or current generation platforms

PC gamers will not be offered the chance to upgrade their copies of Tomb Raider to the upcoming Definitive Edition version of the game, MCV reports.

An official FAQ entry on the matter claims that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was designed and rebuilt from the ground up for next-generation consoles, and that at this time a PC update is not planned.

The news might dissapoint some fans, as Square Enix has previously offered programs for their other major titles, such as Deus Ex, letting users upgrade their copy of the game at a cost.

Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will not be offered a discounted upgrade, either. This means that the model used by other publishers such as EA and Activision will not be followed. The latter let gamers upgrade to next-gen version for $10 extra.

As such, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will remain exclusive for next gen systems (Xbox One and PS4). It features a new Lara model created to take advantage of the power of next-gen consoles; TRESS FX technology that delivers realistic hair simulation and motion; and shader and lighting reworked to showcase the sweat, mud, and blood materials and effects.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will release at the end of this month.
