Sony closing multiplayer servers for more games
Gran Turismo 5, Resistance franchise online servers shutting down
Sony has announced that it plans to shut down online servers, thus disabling multiplayer functionality, for more of its first party titles.
As of 20 May 2014 players will no longer able to use the online features of Gran Turismo 5 on PlayStation 3. The sim racer was released just three years ago - however the followup GT6 is now in stores. That may have something to do with the decision.
As well on 28 March 2014, Sony will close online services for Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3. The shooter franchise from Insomniac Games saw its latest iteration go live in late 2011. However, the studio has since moved on to multi-platform development and said it has no plans for any more Resistance titles.
Don't forget that support for MAG and SOCOM franchises is ending as well, on January 24 2014.
