Another MW2 patch released, hacks still exist.
A new patch has been rushed out to stop the countless number of hacked servers generating huge experience points for gamers. However it hasn't worked.
A new PC (1.0.177) patch has been released for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which has attempted to address the rather strange problem relating to hacked servers. However it appears the patch hasn’t fixed the problem.
Those unlucky enough to join hacked servers during the last few days may have unwittingly received a huge boost to their experience and possibly maxed out their level trivialising their efforts to date
Reports quickly circulated on the Steam Forums in the past few days about joining seemingly normal games in Modern Warfare 2 on the PC only to be greeted with a server that was giving out huge experience points. Thousands of points were awarded for just killing other players where normally only a few hundred would be given.
A new patch has been released for Modern Warfare 2 (1.0.177)
- Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized
- Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry
- Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s
- Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and 'elevators'
- Mouse latency tweaks for more mouse movement consistency
- Fixes to prevent various texture and XP hacks
However it appears the XP hack fixes have been temporary. Players with the new patch have already reported to entering servers that have still got XP increasing hacks and quickly gaining dozens of levels just by doing normal things. Apparently the next fear will be hacked servers that reduce the experience for players dropping their level back to single figures.
IWNet has been plagued with issues, laggy server hosts, long waits for games, server migration issues, host selection issues and now hacked servers that are joinable by anybody. Not being able to view or select a server, which was possible with a dedicated server system, means gamers are completely at the mercy of the game not putting them in a hacked server.
Ininity Ward: "We're just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners”
It seems that goal has not been realised, gamers are powerless to do anything about this when they can’t select which servers to join and which to not. The 360 version also seems the victim of countless XP hacks.
If you are currently an avid Modern Warfare 2 player who cares about your level and unlocks then avoiding the game over the next few days would be a wise decision.
