Grand Theft Auto V sales reach $800m in one day
First 24 hour sales highest in history of Take-Two Interactive
Take-Two Interactive Software has announced that Grand Theft Auto V delivered the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the Company and the Grand Theft Auto series.
Launched on September 17, the title achieved first day sell-through of more than $800 million worldwide, excluding the upcoming launch in Japan and Brazil, according to Company estimates. These are retail sales, not counting those made via digital storefronts on Xbox Live and PSN.
In comparison, last November Activision said that Call of Duty: Black Ops II made $500 million in day-one revenues, surpassing Modern Warfare 3's $400 million+ total, which at the time was billed as the biggest one-day launch total ever in any entertainment medium.
Grand Theft Auto V is currently available for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
