MS Points being replaced by local currency with next Xbox update
The Microsoft Points are going out, will be replaced with cash value
After announcing the news at E3 and teasing the switch last month, Microsoft has confirmed that its MS Points system will be replaced by real world currency values with the next Xbox software update.
After the next Xbox 360 system update, users making purchases or redeeming MS Point cards will conduct the transaction in their local currency value instead. You will still be able to directly purchase content from Xbox stores using any current form of payment available in your region, including credit cards.
The company will continue to accept purchased Microsoft Points Cards and codes until further notice, and they will add to your account an amount of local currency equal to or greater than the Marketplace value of those points. Any amount of MS Points stored on your account will be automatically converted to cash value.
A release window is not yet set for the next Xbox update, but it is expected in the coming months.
