Retail sales of Company of Heroes 2 halted in Russia
Local distributor says user complaints provoked the decision
Russian distributor 1C Games have stopped the retail sales of recently released PC RTS title, Company of Heroes 2.
The distributor has issued a statement on its website, saying that due to user complaints regarding certain missions in the game, it has halted retail shipments and is investigating.
The official forums of said distributor, as well as various message boards across the web, cite the game's highly morally evil and historically inaccurate portrayal of the Soviet forces. This kind of reaction, most notably from Russian-speaking gaming community, has caused the distributor to take notice.
Meanwhile, the global publisher SEGA issued a statement on the matter, saying "Sega and Relic are aware of the press stories circulating concerning Company of Heroes 2 and the historical context of the game from a Russian perspective. At this time we cannot offer any further comment, however we are taking this issue very seriously and are investigating these concerns thoroughly with all relevant partners."
Company of Heroes 2 was released for PC in June.
