Di Vaio selected for All-Star Game by FIFA players
Athlete voted into the event by video game fans' goal scoring
For the first time in any professional sports league, fans used a videogame to determine an athlete participating in an All-Star game. Electronic Arts has named Marco Di Vaio, from the Montreal Impact, the MLS All-Star “In the Game” forward.
Di Vaio was voted to the All-Star Fan XI by fans around the world playing FIFA Soccer 13, who from July 3 to July 10 scored as many goals as possible with 26 eligible MLS forwards. One goal equaled one vote. Fans scored 73,838 goals with Di Vaio to make him the final player on the All-Star Fan XI.
Finishing second behind Di Vaio was Robbie Keane, from the Los Angeles Galaxy, with 69,797 goals. In total, 488,611 goals were scored with eligible MLS forwards in FIFA Soccer 13 during the challenge.
FIFA Soccer 13 is available on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
