World vs World PvP detailed for Guild Wars 2

Posted by SpectralShock on

Mike Ferguson has revealed some additional information about the World vs World PvP system that will be implemented into Guild Wars 2.

Over at the
ArenaNet Blog, the systems designer provided new facts about how the matches will play out and what players can expect from the system.

There will be four huge maps on which the battles will take place. Each of the three teams (each from a different server) gets a home map called the Borderlands, where they would have some advantage as the home team. There is also a fourth, central map called the Eternal Battlegrounds that has its own unique features, including a massive central keep.

Every Guild Wars 2 server competes in battles in the Mists. At the end of each battle, every team is given a new ranking. Once a battle ends and team rankings are updated, servers are matched up based on their new ranking and a new battle commences. Downtime between these battles lasts only a few minutes. For complete details on how the battles will take place, including objectives and player strategies, see the full blog post linked above.

Guild Wars 2 is coming to PC in 2012, console versions are planned for a potential later release.
