Mass Effect 3 to require Origin
The next sci-fi RPG from BioWare will not appear on Steam, will require Origin to play
BioWare has confirmed the DRM plans for the upcoming space RPG, Mass Effect 3. The game will require Origin to run and will not be made available on Steam at launch.
Posting on the official forums, Chris Priestly from BioWare addressed a number of community questions regarding the PC version of Mass Effect 3. Among those, it was revealed that, much like Battlefield 3, the game will require EA's Origin service to run. Both physical and digital copies of the game will require to authenticate with the program.
Due to an on-going dispute with Valve over DLC distribution details, the game will also not appear on Steam at launch.
As for DRM itself, Mass Effect 3 will require a one time, single authorization for the single player game. There is no limit to the number of installs. Playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer will require a constant connection.
Mass Effect 3 is coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in March.
