Dragon Age delay "helped" the PC version

BioWare reveals that the delay enabled them to add more content to the PC version and create a better experience

Posted on
There was a lot of controversy at the beginning of this year when BioWare controversially decided to delay the PC version of Dragon Age in order to accommodate console development. It delayed the game from a mid 2009 release to the holiday season and many PC gamers wondered why they had been punished in order to satisfy their console brothers and sisters.

In an interview with GamerZines, Mike Laidlaw has outlined how the delay has benefited all versions of the game, and what additional content gamers can enjoy due to the extra few month's worth of development time.

"The PC version was heading towards done and we were nearly wrapped when we received the extra time for consoles. So I pulled together a small strike of our most veteran guys and said "Okay look, I think we've got a few more weeks here," explained Laidlaw.

"So what we ended up doing was a pass through and adding in more content- more little side quests, lighter battles and a few random encounters, which adds a nice layer of filler. Anywhere where there was a bit of a lull, we had more time to put something in." Does this mean that the PC version therefore has more content than the console versions? Nothing was confirmed.

Seems like a healthy development choice to us, but we do wonder how complete Dragon Age was when the delay was announced and if there was any chance of the team initially hitting their original March release date.

"Because we had that extra time we wanted to take advantage of it, and just see what we could put in... and of course working on DLC. A lot of the team has moved over to start work on The Stone Prisoner expansion and other downloadable content that's coming out."

Don't tell me it was delayed to support more DLC at launch, lol.  Rip off.  basically all the launch day DLC was payed for with your 50 dollars on the retail box but you get the ability to pay 7 dollars for a extra level.  Nice Bioware.
