Sony reveals Online Pass program

Posted by SpectralShock on

Sony has revealed, following a leak, that Resistance 3 will be among the first titles to include a one-time activation code to access the mulitplayer.

A practice that’s often employed by other game publishers such as EA, this is Sony’s first serious push to limit the used game market. It was made clear that the pass will only be required with select games.

Official statement reads: “We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities. This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.”

This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”

No word yet on what future titles may be included in the program, but it’s likely that most Sony-published games will have this new requirement.

Resistance 3 launches on PlayStation 3 in September.
