Nintendo announces Wii U console
E3 2011: New console set to feature HD visuals, controller with a large screen
At E3 2011 press conference, Nintendo has announced their next home console, Wii U.
The name comes from the company's desire to create games not for everyone, but also just for the player. Details were not revealed in regards to the system's look or official specifications, however a few HD videos and tech demos were shown. The demos featured detailed graphics for classic titles such as Zelda.
A controller for the new console will feature two analog sticks, microphone, speakers, and a large screen positioned at the center. It's said to be working with conjuction with the TV screen, allowing both to be used for gameplay. If the TV is taken, players can continue to enjoy the experience on their controller's screen.
Nintendo also teased strong third party support for the new console, as marked by an appearance of EA CEO. Other publishers' titles included Darksiders 2, Batman Arkham City, EA Sports titles, Assassin's Creed, Dirt, and more.
The console is projected for 2012 launch.
