Portal 2 Authoring tools released
Beta of Portal 2 Authoring Tools is live, lets users create their own levels
The beta of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools has been opened to everyone, says the official website. It's available as a free download for all owners of the PC version of Portal 2 and can be found under the "Tools" tab in Steam.
The Portal 2 Authoring Tools includes versions of the same tools Valve used to make Portal 2. They'll allow players to create singleplayer and co-op maps, new character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music.
Included in the package is the updated version of Hammer, the Source level editor; updated Faceposer; example maps and instances to help build new maps; and updated suite of command-line compiling utilities.
Portal 2 is available now for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
