Guild Wars 2 crafting, attribute system details

Posted by SpectralShock on

In preparation for PAX this week, ArenaNet has posted a couple of new entries on the official blog, detailing some of the features that will be included in the upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2.

First up, Isaiah Cartwright
discusses the various iterations that the game went through during development. When it comes to attributes, the development team went through a number of revisions until they found a system that worked for the game. The current, presumably final attribute system conists of:

Power — increased attack damage
Precision — increased critical strike chance
Vitality — increased health
Toughness — increased defense/armor

These new attributes solved all of the problems, simplified the system, and made already-interesting choices more meaningful for the players.

In the next bit of news, Andrew McLeod was
revealed the crafting system in the game, which will now fall more in line with other MMOs.

In Guild Wars 2, there are eight crafting disciplines players can choose from: Weaponsmith, Huntsman, Artificer, Armorsmith, Leatherworker, Tailor, Jewelcrafter, and Cook. In addition, most crafters can create upgrades for their gear.

Characters can be proficient in up to two crafting disciplines at a time, and can change their disciplines by visiting the master craftsmen NPC. Players will also need to gather raw materials in order to craft, a new feature to the series. Unlike other MMOs, gathering nodes in Guild Wars 2 are not exclusive, or used up after a player gathers materials from it. That means players won’t be annoyed by other players who get to a resource before them, destroying the node in the process.

More information can be found at the blogs linked. Guild Wars 2 is in development for PC, with plans to appear at PAX East this week. No release date is currently announced.
