Sony Reveals New PS5 Controller: Icon Blue DualSense
Sony reveals the new PS5 controller, the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense, priced at $84.99 USD and releasing October 20 in the U.S. and Canada.
Sony has officially announced the Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense wireless controller for the PlayStation 5, scheduled for release on October 20, 2025, in the United States and Canada, and on October 28, 2025, in Mexico and Chile. The controller will retail for $84.99 USD, $109.99 CAD, $1,899 MXN, and $93,490 CLP, and will be available through Walmart stores and Walmart’s official website in these regions.
The new controller was revealed shortly after September 9, which was the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation’s original release in the United States. The milestone represents three decades since Sony entered the global console market, and the anniversary celebrations are ongoing, with new PlayStation-branded merchandise continuing to be announced.
The Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense features multiple-layered shades of blue designed to evoke the signature blue glow of the PlayStation 5 console when powered on. Its touchpad includes a glossy pattern of PlayStation button shapes, while the back of the controller bears an engraving in Japanese Katakana characters that spell “PureisutÄ“shon,” which translates to “PlayStation.”
According to Leo Cardoso from the PlayStation Color, Material, and Finish design team, the design was inspired by the blue light that appears when the PS5 console and DualSense controller are powered on. Cardoso stated that the design is intended to capture the feeling of anticipation and wonder associated with that moment. The Katakana inscription was included as a nod to PlayStation’s origins in Japan.
The controller retains all of the standard DualSense features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, and wireless connectivity.
Alongside the controller announcement, Sony also revealed several PlayStation-themed products that will soon be available through Walmart.com and select Walmart stores in the United States.
The products include:
- Astro Bot Lunch Box – a collectible featuring the character Astro Bot with a lenticular face that changes expressions when viewed from different angles.
- Twisted Metal Meltz Figures – collectible figures by Culturefly, reimagining characters and vehicles from the Twisted Metal franchise.
- PlayStation Jersey – a sports-style jersey combining modern athletic design with PlayStation’s brand imagery.
- The Last of Us Ellie Mini Backpack – a mini backpack modeled after Ellie’s in-game backpack from The Last of Us.
- Monogram Backpack Clips – a set of detailed figural clips featuring PlayStation characters, including Atsu from Ghost of Yotei, Jak, and Sly Cooper.
No specific release dates or prices have been provided for these additional products.
The Icon Blue Special Edition joins a lineup of limited-edition DualSense controllers celebrating various PlayStation franchises.
The franchises are as follows:
