Capcom Confirms Triple Resident Evil Launch on Switch 2

Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem release on Switch 2 February 27, 2026, with Capcom explaining the reasoning behind the triple launch.

Capcom has confirmed that three Resident Evil titles — Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem — will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026. The decision was explained by Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa, who described how the release plan took shape following development tests on Nintendo’s newest hardware.

According to Kumazawa, the first title Capcom prototyped on Switch 2 was Resident Evil Village, which was originally released in 2021. He said that running Village on the system was a “smooth process.” Based on this positive result, Capcom then decided to attempt a port of Resident Evil Requiem, which Kumazawa also described as having gone “smoothly.” With those two titles running successfully on the console, Capcom decided to press its luck and add Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Kumazawa said that Resident Evil 7 had previously been released on the original Nintendo Switch as a cloud version, providing the developers with “a bit of a baseline” for working with Nintendo hardware.

Kumazawa further explained the reasoning behind releasing all three titles simultaneously. He said that scheduling Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem for simultaneous launch would allow players, particularly newcomers, to begin with Resident Evil 7 and play through to Requiem, or to start directly with the newest entry.

The announcement of the three games was made during a Nintendo Direct presentation in September 2025, following months of speculation. It was described as a landmark moment because it was the first time in more than a decade that a mainline Resident Evil title, in this case, Resident Evil Requiem, was confirmed for a Nintendo platform as a day-one release.

Resident Evil Requiem was also shown running on Switch 2 hardware at the Tokyo Game Show. The handheld demo featured a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, who begins suspended upside down on a gurney in a rundown hotel. To escape, she must obtain a second fuse to open a gate. The fuse is located in a locked room that requires a key, and once found, the fuse itself must be broken out of its casing with a tool. During this process, Ashcroft is pursued by a large creature resembling an old woman, which chases her through dark corridors, stalks her through holes in the ceiling, and leaps from doorways.

Impressions from this demonstration reported that the game maintained a stable 60 frames per second in handheld mode. Observers mentioned that the first-person perspective made it easier to identify interactive objects on the small screen, while the third-person mode was described as slightly disorienting. Comparisons of the Switch 2 footage with trailers from other platforms showed reductions in visual fidelity, such as hair detail and general textures, though the game was described as looking strong on the handheld’s 1080p screen. CObservers did point out that the Switch 2 screen appeared dim in brightly lit rooms, which affected visibility in the dark environments of the demo.

The Switch 2 hardware represents a substantial increase in processing power compared to the original Nintendo Switch. This has improved the performance of existing titles and the addition of demanding AAA games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, which were not previously available on Nintendo systems. For Capcom, the stronger performance enabled a simultaneous release of three Resident Evil titles that previously could not have been brought to Nintendo hardware in this way.

Industry reports in August 2025 indicated that access to Switch 2 development kits was limited, creating challenges for some third-party studios. Despite this, Capcom was able to develop and prepare Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem for a coordinated launch.
