Costco Quietly Pulls Xbox Consoles and Games From US and UK Websites
Costco removes Xbox consoles, games, and accessories from US and UK sites as Microsoft faces falling hardware sales and price hike backlash.
Costco has removed all Xbox products from its US and UK websites, with searches for the console, games, and accessories returning no results. The development was first noted by ResetEra user kubev and reported by TheGamer, who observed that the Xbox section had been pulled completely. Searching for PlayStation and Nintendo still produces normal results, with consoles, games, and accessories available to purchase, but Xbox has disappeared from the “Video Game & Consoles” category, where only VR, PlayStation, and Nintendo remain listed.
Reports suggest that some customers on Reddit had noticed the absence of Xbox products on Costco’s site last month, though the removal appears to have been carried out quietly. On the UK Costco website, Google’s preview text still says, “Shop our latest collection of Xbox at Costco.co.uk,” but visiting the site shows no Xbox section and no available products. At the bottom of some pages, Xbox is mentioned alongside Nintendo and Sony, but again, no Xbox consoles or accessories are on offer.
The removal coincides with Microsoft’s struggles in hardware sales during the current console generation. As of July 2025, Xbox hardware revenue had fallen by around 22 percent year-over-year, a sharp contrast with its competitor Sony’s PlayStation 5. Despite this decline, Xbox Game Pass has reached a major milestone, generating approximately $5 billion in revenue for the first time since its launch in 2017. In other words, while the console may be struggling to stay on store shelves, the digital side of Xbox is still cashing in big.
Microsoft has also faced criticism over recent pricing decisions. In the past month, Xbox console prices were raised twice. Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra criticized the increases, stating that Microsoft was using tariffs as an excuse. According to Ybarra, the price hikes were not related to tariffs imposed under the Trump administration but were instead a matter of profit margins.
In terms of market competition, the Xbox Series X has failed to reach the level of success achieved by Sony’s PlayStation 5. Microsoft’s push for console exclusives has softened, with several Xbox titles being ported to PlayStation 5. This shift has fueled speculation that Xbox could one day leave the console business entirely, similar to Sega’s exit after the Dreamcast. Microsoft has denied such speculation, confirming that plans for future Xbox hardware remain underway.
