Power Rangers Morph Into Fortnite Season 4 With Megazord and Mid-August Bundle Drop
Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 added Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with a live-action trailer, new outfits, and Megazord content.
Epic Games has officially announced a crossover between Fortnite and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 6 Season 4, titled Shock ‘N Awesome. The confirmation follows leaks in late July that suggested the Power Rangers collaboration and mentioned possible future collaborations with Peacemaker, Cyborg, and the Fantastic Four.
Fortnite, released in 2017, has multiple game modes: Fortnite: Save the World, Fortnite Creative, and Lego Fortnite. The Power Rangers announcement came after the Chapter 6 Season 3 Super Showdown live event, which began at Demon’s Domain and featured Superman, the Loopers, and the Supernova Academy fighting Daigo and a large number of tentacles. The event included a teaser for Chapter 6 Season 4, showing giant tentacles beneath the Battle Royale island.
Fortnite Battle Royale currently does not include traditional loot boxes, but the game’s earlier Save the World mode featured randomized “loot llamas” that could be purchased using in-game currency or real money without revealing their contents beforehand. In January 2019, Epic Games changed this system so players could see the contents before buying, a feature known as “x-ray” preview. In February 2021, Epic settled a class-action lawsuit related to these loot boxes by granting 1,000 V-bucks to affected Save the World players. Studies cited by public health experts have linked spending on randomized loot boxes in video games to mental health issues such as anxiety and stress, as well as problematic gambling behaviors. In Australia, games with loot boxes have been given a mature (M) rating, while games with simulated gambling receive an R 18+ rating.
The Shock ‘N Awesome trailer begins in Fortnite’s computer-generated style, showing the island attacked by bugs that emerged from a monster defeated by Superman at the end of Season 3. As the bugs swarm characters, including Peely, the trailer switches to live-action with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This portion shows stunt actors in Power Rangers suits fighting the insects, followed by the appearance of the Dino Megazord.
Viewers familiar with the Power Rangers series saw similarities between the trailer’s rocky desert location and Vasquez Rocks, a park north of Los Angeles known for distinctive rock formations. In the original series, Vasquez Rocks appeared in early episodes as the site of the Rangers’ first fight against the Putties and in wide shots of the Command Center. It also featured in the “Ninja Quest” storyline when the Rangers teleported to find Ninjor. Epic Games has not confirmed if the trailer was filmed there.
The Fortnite x Power Rangers crossover debuted last month in Season 4, rolling out the Mighty Morphin Bundle with the Red, Black, Pink, Yellow, and Blue Ranger outfits, plus the “Go Go Power Rangers – Redux” Jam Track accessory, all available in the Item Shop.
Players also gained access to the Dino Megazord Outfit through the Battle Pass. On September 16, a midseason takeover will introduce the Megazord Power Up ability, with Battle Pass holders able to unlock it by completing special event quests.
The collaboration highlights Power Rangers, the long-running American series adapted from Japan’s Super Sentai, famous for its giant mecha battles. That legacy is now represented in Fortnite with the addition of the iconic Dino Megazord.
